I am at my wits’ end with the trucks leave their engines on idle while parking outside my offices in Union Street and the resultant noise and air pollution is giving some of my staff headaches.
Council painted no stopping and no parking lines, which are ignored. The no stopping signs were stolen in the first week and were never replaced.
This is the third call placed to EMPD in the last seven days with regards to this matter with last reference number being 40010.
A representative attended to the complaint recently and according to her if this is such an issue, we should elevate the matter to SAPS.
Very unhelpful, and quite frankly, absurd.
Any urgent help with this matter would be appreciated.

The RECORD received the following from EMM regarding the matter:
With regards to the complaint of the trucks, the EMPD commander spoke to the dispatch manager from at Logistix SA and according to him, for the past two weeks they had a challenge with the lifting of cranes and there was only one operating, hence the trucks took long to leave the yard causing the obstruction.
“They are now using two cranes to load and unload the containers from the trucks so it will be much better henceforth,” said the commander.
The private security personnel was instructed by management to ensure that no trucks obstruct any business driveway.
The number of trucks that comes for loading and offloading depends on the harbour and it varies between 50 and 150.
”Members from EMPD will be monitoring the situation and if there is no difference, Logistix will be held responsible.”
