ALBERTON – Final round of the karting regional championship held at Vereeniging kart circuit saw 7-year-old Jagger Robertson out to defend his third place in the championship standings.
Jagger has been a regular front contender for the season and entered this round with the second highest points scored for the entire season with only two points less than the leading point’s scorer but the rules mandate that points from three heats are dropped which moved him to third in the standings.
When it came to qualifying, he put plenty of recent practice at his home track to good use and posted his fastest lap ever at the track while qualifying third on the grid only 0.1 of a second from pole position and his highest qualifying position for the year.
Jagger has over the year always qualified and then improved positions during the race day as he is a true racer and relishes in the challenge of getting through the traffic and making good passes being quick to judge the traffic and back markers and make good passes to improve his position.
Grid for heat one lined up and he moved from third up to second out of the first corner and at the end of the first lap he moved up to first place, from there it was going to be his race to win. Lap two heading down the back straight the kart began to slow as a newly fitted accelerator cable pulled out of the clip which goes into the carburettor and the kart came to a stop ending his race just there.
With a non-finish in heat one it would mean he had to start from the back of the grid and with an engine that had suffered some damage due to the cable clip having been sucked through the engine, but the talented young driver would fought his way from twenty something on the grid up to eighth by the end of the second heat and then up to fourth by the end of the third heat so he had a determined drive from the back of the pack and held his head high at the end of the day for a determined drive.
For the 2014 season Jagger will be moving up to the next level of competition which will be a year earlier than he should as he has reached his potential in the cadet class and he will benefit more from the bigger class to develop his skills as a driver and he is looking forward to the challenge.
