Inaugural trial run surprises athletes
The inaugural Wild Johannesburg Trail Run took place at Thaba Trails recently with three distances winding their way through the bushveld trails.
ALBERTON – The 5km run was exciting, yet less demanding than the 10km and 20km runs. A total of 113 trial runners entered for the 5km run, with Pieter Roos winning and the first lady home was Kim Newell.
Athletes taking on the 10km were surprised by the winding trails usually filled with mountain bikers. The closeness to nature made this an enjoyable, yet tough run. There were 194 10km trail runners, with Andrew Surgey the first runner home and Jocelyne Kimberley was the first lady home.
Sello Ramaloko found the 20km run a challenge but he managed to be the first runner to cross the finish line. The hills were a good test of strength and the last part of the run gave runners the opportunity to stretch their legs and get a good speed going. The first lady to finish was Helen Ibbotson.
