Alberton racers enjoy the day at Zwartkops Raceway

Alberton motorsport enthusiasts recently turned Zwartkops Raceway into their playground.

Motorsport enthusiasts from Alberton participated in multiple competition divisions on a day that was full of screaming engines, screeching tyres, and plenty of adrenaline on April 20.

Meyersdal’s Rob van Aarle enjoyed a great day competing in the Evapco Pursuit Series in his 1969 Ford Escort owned by Ace Auto Salvage.

Pursuit Series is a time-based class in the racing sport, and in the first race, Rob’s time had improved enough for him to be moved up a class.

Rob secured a second place in his new class. Rob’s efforts netted him second place overall for the day. The changes that Rob made to his car after the last race are working well and he had no issues with his car.

Brackenhurst resident Bruce van Niekerk had a packed weekend. He participated in both the Formula Libre and Historic Single Seater classes.

Bruce Morrison and his brother, Jody, were supposed to face off in the Historic Single Seater class, but a malfunction with the Goshawk Technologies Bolzup prevented the motor from operating as intended.

Blane de Meillion of Brackenhurst was involved in an accident on his way to the track. Although he was not hurt, the accident caused damage to his S&J, disqualifying him from the Historic Single Seater category for the weekend.

In the SuperVee division, Blane placed fourth twice.
