Men’s nationals to be a Clash of the Titans

Members of lawn bowls are set to come to Johannesburg to enjoy nationals.

Participants in lawn bowls are patiently waiting for the sport’s 2024 nationals to be held in Johannesburg from May 4 to 12.

Lawn bowls originated in ancient Egypt almost 5 000 years ago, making it older than the Pyramids.

Speaking of longevity, Bowls South Africa’s Nationals tournament has been running for 103 years, dating back to 1921.

This is not just a game for retirees on a lazy afternoon. It is a tremendously competitive sport, and the nationals event is where the best of the best gather to showcase their abilities.

From singles to pairs and fours, teams compete for the title of best in the country.

According to the president of Gauteng Bowls, Sanette Krutzinger, this year’s national bowls tournament promises to be a fight of giants.

“We are thrilled with the number of entries from across the country,” she said.

You can expect an entertaining day out with matches lasting from 09:00 to 17:00, from May 4 to May 12.

Go to one of the many bowling clubs that are hosting the games which are Alberton, Bedfordview, Belgravia, Brackenhurst, Bryanston Sports, Delville Germiston, Edenvale, Ferndale, Jeppe Quondam, Kempton Park, Kensington, Killarney, Linden, Modderfontein, Morningside Country Club, Old Parktonians, Randburg, Ridge Park, Roosevelt and Wanderers to see lawn bowling is not just for experienced players. It is a sport for all ages, from seven-year-old beginners to seasoned veterans.

Whether searching for a competitive game or just a fun way to spend time with your family, lawn bowls provide something for everyone.
