Eden Park boxer Ruwayden Olifant declared SA flyweight champion for 2025
Olifant won after months of personal discipline, hard training, and tough boxing matches.
Eden Park Boxing Club fighter Ruwayden Olifant has officially been declared South Africa’s flyweight champion for 2025.
The South African National Boxing Organisation (SANABO) held its championships in Pretoria from July 2 to July 6.
The event took place at Transnet’s Engineering Boxing Academy and brought together top fighters from all nine provinces to compete for the national title.
Having won all his fights leading up to the championship, Olifant first took on Mudau Mulaeba from Limpopo and knocked him out.
Fresh from that win, the Eden Park native faced off against Anthony Rooi from the Western Cape. The tough bout ended with Olifant taking the win on points.

In the final match, Olifant went up against KwaZulu-Natal’s Phumlani Ngcobo. Despite a strong performance from Ngcobo, Olifant rose to the occasion and claimed victory once again.
Reacting to his fighter’s first-place finish and gold medal, Eden Park Boxing Club chairman Sydney Kok said, “It has been a long road which started in 2018. We are not going to rush things; we will take things step by step. However, we are clear that the Olympics are our ultimate goal.
“Olifant will have to rest a bit. The boy has had a busy year so far with nine fights, and he has won them all. None of them were easy, but he put Eden Park boxing back where it belongs – at the top. Well done, champ.”
