Alberton’s Legacy Gymnastics Club recently travelled with its team of gymnasts for a competition in Malta, on the shores of southern Europe.
The gymnasts from Alberton landed in Malta on July 9.
Legacy Gymnastics took its team A and B squads to compete in an event hosted by GymStars, a Malta-based gymnastics centre which hosts gymnasts from all over the world.
Founded in 2003, GymStars had 40 registered members and three coaching staff. Today, it is one of the most revered gymnastics centres in the world, catering for children as young as 18 months to national team members.
The group from Alberton competed over two days, displaying stunning floor routines during the competition, which saw two of their members place fourth and fifth on beam.
To kick back and relax, Legacy gymnasts took to the streets of Malta and visited tourist attractions to explore the land of honey-coloured stone before heading back to South Africa.
“Our gymnasts did exceptionally well in their first international competition. They had loads of fun exploring the beautiful Malta, walking the streets of Valletta, cliff jumping and ending off our trip with an amazing boat cruise to the lagoons.

“We enjoyed every moment. Thank you, Gymstars, for hosting us, and thank you to our parents for making this possible for our gymnasts,” said Legacy in a statement.
