Alberton Lions Club celebrates Mandela Day by uplifting local community

Each year on July 18, South Africans honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy through acts of service. The Alberton Lions Club marked the day with heartfelt outreach efforts, supporting mothers, children, and the hungry in their community

As part of the annual Mandela Day commemorations, the Alberton Lions Club helped those in need in their community.

The club delivered 25 mommy care bags to new mothers at the South Rand Hospital, each containing knitted items, blankets, a teddy bear, toiletries and other baby essentials.

The club also handed out queen cakes to the hospital’s security staff as a show of appreciation for their work.

“Hunger is always top of the needs in our community,” said club secretary Melindar Strydom.

“We delivered New Season meal packs to five crèches and the Kleindorpie Soup Kitchen in Turffontein, feeding 3 008 hungry tummies. Thank you to Investec for the donation that made this possible.”

The club thanked the community for its continued support in making such projects a reality.

Those wanting to get involved – by donating, helping with service projects, knitting or crocheting items for mommy care bags, or contributing R100 towards school shoes and socks for children in need – can call service chair Sandra Human on 083 990 0212.
