Laerskool Randhart’s Anroux Nel is Alberton’s future cross-country shining star
Anroux recently participated in the CGA Championships, where he ran a strong race and was among the top runners.
Anroux Nel, a Grade Four learner from Laerskool Randhart, is Alberton’s future cross-country shining star. He recently ran a strong race at the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) provincial championships.
Representing the 32GI Running Club, Anroux was among the top runners, placing fourth in his age group at the CGA championships.
The CGA cross-country league is one of the toughest development platforms for young athletes in the province. The season began at the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex and ran across six league meetings at different venues.
To qualify for the provincial championships, athletes must compete in at least three of the league events.
The best runners progress to the CGA provincial championships, where final selections are made for the team that will represent Gauteng at the national level.
Only the top six athletes in each category are chosen for the Athletics South Africa (ASA) cross-country championships.
Anroux was one of the most outstanding athletes. His performance earned him a place in the top six CGA athletes who represented the CGA team at the ASA national championships in Middelburg, Mpumalanga.
Anroux placed 18th overall in his age category at the ASA championships, contributing to a stellar team effort.
The CGA team ranked second nationally, earning a silver medal at the championships.
Anroux trains under the guidance of his coach, Leanie Heymans, who praises his discipline and commitment.
“His dedication both on and off the field is a testament to his drive to carry Alberton’s name with pride at the national level.
“Alberton can rally behind Anroux, who is proving that hard work, talent, and determination can take local athletes to the biggest stages,” said Heymans.
