Recruitment drive for residents of Alberton for the 2026 Comrades Marathon
The Alberton Athletics Club (AAC) is spearheading efforts to get as many Albertonians as possible to join it in preparation for next year’s marathon.
The Alberton Athletics Club (AAC) is calling on all residents of Alberton and surrounding areas to join it in preparation for the 2026 Comrades Marathon.
The club wants to recruit as many athletes as possible and is encouraging community members to start planning for next year’s race with the help of AAC.
“Community members planning on taking the Comrades Marathon in 2026 do not have to do it alone. They can join AAC and train alongside a community rich in camaraderie and experience,” said AAC member Anton Ferreira.
Experience and mentorship
The club promises to help runners collaborate with those who have previously navigated the course many times.
AAC’s 13 honorary members alone have a remarkable tally of 158 Comrades medals among them, including 41 silver medals. The club wants to share this wealth of knowledge and support with fellow runners.
“Next year’s race is an up run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, a gruelling route that tests heart and endurance. Known as the ultimate human race, Comrades celebrates perseverance and the human spirit. The 2026 slogan, ‘ska fela moya’ (meaning never give up), perfectly captures that spirit,” added Ferreira.
