EMPD urges owners to collect impounded vehicles from Alberton pound

The City of Ekurhuleni has published a list of uncollected vehicles and outlined what owners need to do to reclaim them.

Fourteen cars, seven motorcycles and four trailers are among the vehicles listed at the Alberton EMPD pound.

Owners have been urged to check the public notice and reclaim their property within 30 days.
The city issued a public notice listing uncollected vehicles held at its pounds in Alberton, Boksburg, Brakpan and Kempton Park after attempts to trace owners or authorised representatives were unsuccessful.

The Alberton list includes 14 motor vehicles, seven motorcycles and four trailers.
The vehicles include a Toyota Hiace, Renault Megane, Renault Sandero, Ford Courier, Mercedes-Benz A160, Mazda 2, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Honda Jazz, Nissan Hardbody, Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Tucson and BMW 3 Series.

The notice provides registration numbers, vehicle descriptions, colours, pound numbers and model years to help owners identify their property.

How to reclaim your vehicle

Registered owners or people authorised to act on their behalf must visit the relevant EMPD pound with proof of ownership, such as vehicle registration documents, authorisation where applicable and valid photo identification.

They are also required to settle all outstanding impoundment, towing, storage, administrative and other associated costs before collecting their vehicles.

The Alberton pound is situated at 4 Swartkoppies Road, General Alberts Park, Alberton.
The notice warns that vehicles not collected within the stipulated 30-day period, with outstanding fees unpaid, may be disposed of as scrap to recover costs incurred by the city.

It also refers to Regulation 320 of the National Road Traffic Regulations, 2000, which provides for the sale of an impounded vehicle to recover costs if the owner has been traced but fails to collect it for more than 12 months.

Owners are encouraged to check the attached public notice carefully to establish whether their vehicle is listed and to contact or visit the relevant pound to make arrangements for collection.
The city has urged residents to share the notice to help reach affected vehicle owners.
