Cobras Shotokan Karate Club wins 29 medals at Goshukan Championships

The impressive medal haul reflects the Alberton club’s dedication, discipline and commitment as it continues to make its mark on the Gauteng karate scene.

The Cobras Shotokan Karate Club from Alberton delivered an impressive performance at the recent Goshukan All Styles Karate Championships, bringing home a total of 29 medals.

The tournament, held in Boksburg, attracted more than 300 karate students from clubs across Gauteng, making for a highly competitive day of martial arts.

Represented by 22 competitors, the Alberton-based club excelled across various divisions, earning 29 medals and showcasing the dedication and hard work of its athletes.

Club officials praised the competitors for their discipline, commitment and determination throughout the event, with the results reflecting the high standard of training within the club.

The club’s medal winners were:

• Tlotlo Kgatitsoe – bronze

• Keithon Greeff – one gold and one silver

• Mbaliyenkosi Nhlapo – one silver and one bronze

• Aiden Watson – two silver and two bronze

• Lisakhanya Tuswa – one gold, one silver, and two bronze

• Biopelo Ubisi – two silver

• Hayley Peel – bronze

• Paton Watson – silver

• Sahara Peel – bronze

• Keana Truscott – two silver

• Bonang Ubisi – two bronze

• Dneyka Govindan – gold

• Marcel Cobbaert – silver

• Ivy Griffin one silver, one bronze

• Nadia Maphosa – bronze

• Mbasa Ntini – two silver

Cobras Shotokan Karate Club welcomes new members of all ages and experience levels.

Training takes place at Ascot Mews, 19 Heidelberg Avenue, Newmarket on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Beginner classes are from 17:30 to 18:30 and advanced classes from 18:30 to 19:30. The first two karate classes are free for anyone interested in trying the sport.
