Thando (20) was fatally shot at close range after a chase following a road rage incident on August 28, 2022, as the Grade 11 learner was returning to his home in Tsutsumani Village in the early morning hours from a night out with six of his friends when he met his tragic death on the corner of 12th Avenue and Hofmeyr Street.
The suspect, who cannot be named at this stage as he has not been asked to plead, is a well-known socialite who has been denied bail in the Alexandra Regional Court
According to Thando’s father, Sipho Masebe, a seasoned Alex actor, socialite and businessman, his murder resulted from a road rage incident when the suspect and the boys exchanged words over a nasty driving incident.

The suspect is alleged to have pulled out a gun and when the boys realised he was armed, they jumped out of the car they were travelling in and ran away. The suspect is believed to have given chase and caught up with Thando and shot him in the back of the head and he died on the spot while one of the boys was badly injured in the leg.
Masebe said he had been informed that the trial would be heard on April 16 and the suspect remains in custody.
