Young leaders from Alexandra take Mr and Miss Sipho Sethu Arts Project 2025 crowns

As the SSAP pageant continues to empower responsible young people who champion youth empowerment, Alexandra township will never run short of future leaders.

The Sipho Sethu Arts Project’s (SSAP) annual pageant returned to East Bank Hall on October 25, and while the stage saw crowns, sashes, and all the glitz and glamour that comes with them, the real story is what happens next.

Established in 2018, SSAP’s Mr and Miss pageant has grown into more than a modelling contest; it is a platform where young people from Alexandra learn to lead, speak up, and show others what is possible. The 2025 winners, crowned across junior, teen, and senior categories, are not just titleholders; they’re ambassadors, tasked with mentoring peers, participating in youth campaigns, and driving change in the community.

Among the standout victors was Bontle Mokwatle, who clinched the Miss SSAP Teen Queen 2025 title. Mellisa Ndlovu triumphed in the junior category, while Layla Bills stole the spotlight in the senior division, earning both Miss SSAP and Social Butterfly titles. Linathi Nobangelo was crowned king in the male contest. The winners are excepted, not only to wear their crowns with pride, but to champion youth empowerment as well.

As they step into their new roles, they will be participating in workshops and local initiatives aimed at education, self-development, and giving back to the community. “Let this be the beginning of a journey where you use your influence to inspire and impact others positively,” founder Nomsa Motha noted.

The event also recognised runners-up, as well as other category winners, including Buhle Ndlovu, Hope Setati, Koketso Baloyi, and Onalenna Mashele. Their titles reflect not just popularity, but presence and impact.

Motha noted improvements in this year’s pageant, signs that SSAP’s influence is deepening. “We see more young people showing interest in being part of SSAP, which shows that our vision of empowerment and growth is taking root.”
