Blue Birds Ladies Development FC bounces back with a 7–0 victory

Coach Malvin Khumalo lauds his team's growth with their recent commanding victory against Bantwana FC.

Blue Birds Ladies Development FC’s 7–0 victory over Batwana FC in their SAFA Women’s Regional League fixture served as a powerful comeback after an earlier 1–7 loss to DZ Movers FC.

The result, at the Alex Safe Hub on May 17, was a strong response to their recent challenges, and, more importantly, highlighted their continued growth and tactical maturity. The game was characterised by precise ball distribution, particularly effective down the left flank. The Blue Birds controlled large portions of the match in their opponents’ territory. Playing with the composure of a more experienced side, the Blue Birds demonstrated better tactical understanding, quick decision-making, and confidence in executing their game plan.

Coach Malvin Khumalo was encouraged by what he saw from his players, placing the emphasis firmly on long-term development, rather than short-term results. “On quality and the things we have been doing, we are one of the best teams in the league. Every game that we play, besides the scoreline, we always show dominance and quality.”

He expressed strong confidence in the club’s development and its potential impact on the senior team. “When you have a development team that plays like this, it gives me confidence, because it means that our senior team will always be competent because we know we can promote players that are developed well and that are of the right quality. We have one of the best development teams in the league. We just need to continue improving to become even better than this.”

The coach noted that the squad is steadily building momentum and learning from each outing. Currently sitting in fourth position on the log, with 10 points from six matches, Blue Birds are showing promising signs of growth. Thus far, they have had three wins, one draw, two losses.

Looking ahead, Khumalo is focused on continued improvement, as the team prepares for tougher tests. “I’m expecting to see us improving game by game. We have more difficult games to play. So, I think we need to continue to work hard.”
