Police address video of woman allegedly assaulted by officers
A physical altercation, captured on video has been confirmed by poice to be as a result of a woman resisting arrest.
Alexandra police confirmed that a woman, featured in a widely circulated video showing two female officers appearing to use force, including what looks like a taser, was resisting arrest.
The video, which surfaced on February 11, depicts a minor scuffle between the woman and two police officers at a betting facility at Pan Africa Shopping Centre.
Reports indicate that South African Police Service (SAPS) officers approached the woman, a foreign national, and requested her documents to verify her immigration status in South Africa.
However, the woman was unable to provide the required documents. When officers attempted to arrest her, she allegedly resisted, leading to the physical altercation captured on video.

Alexandra Station Commander Brigadier Vusimuzi Ngubane addressed the incident, noting that the suspect attempted to flee when police attempted to detain her, but was eventually arrested and taken into custody.
Although, he confirmed the woman’s arrest, he noted that the alleged use of a taser in the incident requires investigation. “When a person resists arrest, police [must] use minimum force.”
Officers have repeatedly emphasised that undocumented foreign nationals remain a challenge in Alexandra, where illegal immigration has long been identified as one of the factors contributing to crime.
Community members have also frequently expressed frustration, urging police to address illegal immigration.
At the recent SAPS and Community Policing Forum meeting in Sector 3, Police noted concerns about residents taking the law into their own hands to address immigration issues, stressing that law enforcement officials are responsible for handling such matters lawfully.
