Alex Northrand LFA goes to the polls
ALEXANDRA – Lobbying is already at fever pitch as the LFA’s clubs are busy trying to find suitable and preferred candidates, says Khumalo.
It’s election time again for all the football structures in the country and Alexandra will lead the way by being the first local football association to go to the polls on February 27.
This was announced by the secretary-general of Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association Malvin Khumalo in an interview with Alex News at his workplace at Afrika Tikkun Phuthaditjaba Centre on 17th Avenue.
Alex, as the oldest local football association (LFA) established in 1935, will be the first to go to the polls in the Johannesburg Region which consists of 11 LFAs. The other LFAs also have their own dates within the quarter.
The 11 LFAs are Alex Northrand, Deep South, Greater Mayfair, Midrand, Soweto, Eldos, Orange Farm, Rand Central, Southerns, Roodepoort, and Jowest.
Khumalo said the road to the 2022 elections was so designed by the mother body, South African Football Association (Safa), that the first quarter of the year belongs to the LFAs, the second quarter to the regions, third quarter to the provinces, and then the final third quarter to the Safa elections.
Once in office, the 11 LFAs in Joburg Region vote for their regional leaders, and then five regions in the Safa Gauteng province vote for the Safa Gauteng Regional leaders, and the Provincial Executive Committees nationally then vote for the mother body leaders, including the Safa president.
Khumalo said he had since issued the notice for the elective conference which would take place in the boardroom of the Alexandra Stadium. “I am just waiting for the nomination forms which must be filled and handed over to the auditors for ratification.
“Once ratified, the IEC [Independent Electoral Commission] comes into the picture to vet the nominations after which, once the IEC confirms nominations as being in order, the elections can then go ahead,” Khumalo said.
Khumalo said lobbying was already reaching a fever pitch on the ground as the LFA’s clubs were busy trying to find suitable and preferred candidates for the various positions on the LFA’s executive committee.
“Clubs should be ready to nominate their preferred candidates once I get the forms to distribute because they are lobbying as we speak.”
