Local team wins 5-1 against Soweto Fabulous Ladies
Alexandra's Bluebirds Ladies has new competition in their own backyard as Blu Raycon Ladies has joined the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association from Kempton Park and marked their maiden game in the new LFA in style, beating township rivals and veterans of the Gauteng Sasol Women's League Soweto Fabulous Ladies 5-1.
Alexandra has a new elite team in its books and it celebrated its arrival in style by drubbing a Soweto township rival by 5–1 goals in its maiden Gauteng Sasol Women’s League in its new home at the Alexandra Stadium on June 4.
Formerly Kempton Park Stars based in Kempton Park, Blu Raycon Ladies were promoted to the Gauteng Sasol Women’s League this season and decided to relocate to the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association.
It walloped bitter cross-township rivals and veterans of the Sasol Women’s League Soweto Fabulous Ladies, who were not so fabulous in this one-sided game to announce its arrival with a bang.

Its relocation was confirmed to Alex News by the Alex Northrand LFA secretary-general Malvin Khumalo, who welcomed the side and hoped it will play a major role in the development of women’s football in the township believed by other stakeholders to be lagging behind in comparison with other LFAs.
Raycon started the cross-township derby game like a house on fire and ultimately dominated the entire game, especially its wing players, left-winger Bonolo Seekoei and her right counterpart Tshepang Masimula, who were thorns in the flesh of Fabulous with their telling runs and crosses into the box.
Seekoei missed a couple of scoring chances before she struck a beautiful free-kick way out of the 18-area right into the back of the net in the 38th minute to open the scoring. Lizneth Nkomo followed up just after the opening goal but missed adding a second one in close succession after she gifted it to the hands of the Fabulous keeper Pretty Ngwenya.
Fabulous decided to substitute its Amanda Mbonani who was nothing more than a spectator in the game. At one time she missed the ball and giggled at herself and her replacement, Nelisiwe Tshabalala, came into the game without shin guards and earned herself a yellow card.

Raycon’s stylish Masimula got the second goal just a few minutes before the referee blew for half-time and she almost got her brace soon after the resumption of the game, but her header missed the hands of the keeper only to be cleared off the line by a defender.
Seekoei got her brace when she made it 3–0 and substitute Buhlebenkosi Zulu scored in just a couple of touches of the ball from a corner kick taken by Masimula and another substitute Gift Kabate headed home the final fifth nail in the Fabulous coffin.
Fabulous managed to take one back and the final scoreline was 5–1. Raycon coach Martin Matsetela, who confirmed his side had just joined the Alex Northrand LFA from Kempton Park, had nothing but praise for her girls’ handling of the maiden game in the new LFA.
“I am sure we have won the hearts of those spectators that watched the game judging from the way we played,” he added.
