Gauteng Sasol Women’s League set to begin early March

Safa says were streams devised to speed up completion of league while at the same cutting costs incurred by the teams in travelling the length and breath of the province for their games.

The South African Football Association (Safa) has released the names of the teams that will play in the two streams of the Gauteng Sasol Women’s League for the 2023 season.

The league will be composed of two streams, A and B, which after completing the season will lead to provincial play-offs in the various provinces to determine each province’s championship team that will go into the national play-offs finals.
Safa devised the streams as a way to speed up the completion of the league and at the same time to cut the travel costs incurred by the clubs when they have to travel the length and breadth of the province to honour their games commitments.

The secretary general of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association, Malvin Khumalo, whose association has three teams in the league, said a draw of the teams in the streams was still yet to be conducted by Safa but that the league was expected to start in early March.
Teams in the local LFA include Bluebirds Ladies, Blu Raycon Ladies, and Croesus Ladies, with Raycon and Croesus both drawn in Stream A with teams such as Diepkloof Ladies from Soweto, JVW Ladies from Ekurhuleni who bought the status of Soweto Fabulous Ladies, Kathorus Ladies, Mathaithai Ladies, North West University of the Vaal and Viking Ladies.

JVW, who are owned by current Banyana Banyana player and former captain Janine van Wyk, also has a side that plies its football trade in the Hollywoodbets Super League.
The Sasol League is expected to act as a development side for the senior team in the Hollywoodbets league. Stream B comprises Bluebirds Ladies, Hallelujah Zebra Forces, Kempton Park Ladies, Luso Africa Ladies, Nicko Taurus, Springs Home Sweepers, University of Johannesburg (UJ Ladies) and Wits University (Wits Ladies).
