Aquatics SA hopes for future champs from Alex
Aquatics South Africa president Anton Jordaan looks forward to the Alex Youth Swim Academy producing future champions for the sport.
Aquatics South Africa president Anton Jordaan has applauded the Alex Youth Swim Academy for its work in teaching swimming skills to township children and hoped that one day champions will emerge from this group.

He was addressing the swimmers and their parents at the first annual swim gala to mark the end of the season for 2023 which was held at King David Linksfield School on December 3.

“The dream of Aquatics South Africa is to see future champions of the sport emerge from this group. We conduct these swimming lessons not just to breed champions but to impart swimming skills to our children to reduce drowning incidents in our province,” Jordaan said as he wished both parents and children a merry festive season.

trusting ‘us with their children as it is no longer easy just to send your children to strangers, but you trusted us with your children and for that we are grateful’.

Academy founder Lawrence Ruele outlined his near-drowning incident when he was still a youngster just across the school [King David Linksfield] in a pool where his mother used to work as a domestic and this is part of what inspired him to start the academy to help township children acquire these lifesaving skills.

Gcina Twala from Ntsika Ye Sizwesethu NPO and on behalf of Phuthaditjhaba-Qoqizizwe Centre in Alex said she hoped the academy could grow from strength to strength in its work with the children of Alexandra.
