Stay in school to build a better future for yourselves, MEC Hlophe urges Alex learners

Amapiano DJ, singer and motivational speaker Lady Du urged Ithute learners to always stay focused on their schoolwork as this was the key that opens doors to a brighter future.

Gauteng MEC for Social Development, Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Mbali Hlophe told learners at Ithute Primary School in Alexandra to study hard and be obedient to their seniors and teachers.

Speaking to the learners as part of Gauteng Provincial Government’s Back-to-School campaign, Hlophe said, “Education is your key and gateway to a brighter future, and you should embrace the opportunity to learn with both hands and ensure you succeed.

“Your parents brought you to school so that you can attain success in the future. So don’t miss the opportunity to better your lives because the government is here to support you”.
Hlophe assured the school as she distributed 150 school uniform packs and 111 dignity packs that government will make it a point that learners have a social worker from the department dedicated to the school to assist with matters such as substance abuse awareness and social ills, including bullying in schools.

Amapiano DJ, singer and motivational speaker Duduzile Ngwenya from Boksburg who goes by the stage name of ‘Lady Du’ told learners to stay focused on their schooling and warned girls to ‘stay away from boys and to do books before boys as boys breed babies’.

Lady Du told the learners that education was the key to opening doors to success in life while a Grade 7 learner Buhle Tshewu (12) thanked the department for the uniform and said, “The special visit was appreciated as you talk also opened our eyes to several career opportunities”.
The school uniform packs distributed by Gauteng Government consisted of a pair of shoes, a pair of socks, a jersey, a tunic/trouser/skirt, a pack of underwear, a vest, and a bag. Dignity packs contained soap, moisturiser, sanitary towels.
