Immigration scam hits Yeoville

The Yeoville community is urged to be aware of a bogus immigration agent scam that is operating in the area.

“The police received a complaint about a bogus immigration agent scam that is operating in the area,” said Constable Thabo Malatji of the Yeoville SAPS. One of the victims alleges that he was approached by a person who claimed to be an agent and he was promised three permanent resident permits.

The victim paid R75 000 and he gave the agent his passport. Later that day, he received the passports with permits. The victim went to the Department of Home Affairs where he was told the permit was fake. The victim approached the agent and he took the passport and has never seen him since.

“The police urges the community to follow proper procedure when applying for their permits and approach the Department of Home Affairs directly,” said Constable Malatji.
