School donates shoes

Reddam House collected 800 pairs of shoes for the needy on the Mandela Day.

The school’s staff and pupils had to walk barefoot from 12 noon until the end of the school day.

At the beginning of the programme the staff and the pupils stood up and joined hands in a moment of silence, praying for the speedy recovery of former president, Dr Nelson Mandela.

The project co-ordinator and a teacher at the school, Mr James Taylor, said that the project was to encourage everyone to help each other when they can.

“Most of us here do not know how it feels not to have a pair of shoes. By walking without them for a few hours we will understand. After today’s project someone will have a pair of shoes. I want to encourage you, the pupils, that even after you have left here, as university students or when you are working or have your own businesses, continue to help where you can,” said Mr Taylor.

He said that helping one person goes a long way.

“We have a massive number of people who need help. Be aware of your surroundings. Know what goes on around you. Help where you can,” said Mr Taylor.
