It is important that if anyone has information about any crime, or any suspicious criminal activity, to call 10111. The information given can be useful to help prevent a crime.
Provincial SAPS spokesperson, Captain Pinky Tsinyane, said it is understandable that in normal circumstances, complainants are faced with challenges when they are in danger or witnessing a crime.
“Taking note of their state, there are questions that need to be answered for the complaint to be registered and the response vehicle dispatched to the correct scene,” he said.
Complainants should speak clearly in order for the telephone operator to assist. The name and contact number is crucial, in case the call is ended unexpectedly so that the supervisor can call back.
“Provide the full and correct address, it helps the police attending the complaints get to the scene speedily. Mention roughly what is happening or the type of emergency, as this will enable the dispatcher or controller to determine the type of police (according to their expertise) to dispatch and the other role players to assist. In the areas where there are no street names and house numbers provide a description of the nearest landmarks,” he said.
“Complainants should wait for the call operator to give the reference number before ending the call. This will help to trace your call if there are any enquiries or if one needs to make follow-ups in terms of an investigation,” said Capt Tsinyane.
“The emergency line should not be abused. Our employees work towards service excellence. We will, at all times, bear the mark of professionalism because we care and a partnership with our community is our priority. We are always improving with your comments and complaints,” said Capt Tsinyane.
