Jeppe hosts primary school cricket festival

The first weekend of the Jeppe High School for Boys U/12 cricket festival took place on November 23.

The event takes place over two weekends, with 10 teams representing their respective schools.

“The objective of the festival is to give the young primary school boys a chance to be involved in the game of cricket, to make new friends and to give the coaches an opportunity to see all their players showcasing their talent and skills, while experiencing what high school cricket is all about,” said Mr Ronald White from Jeppe High School for Boys.

The primary school teams involved in the festival included Arbor Primary, Aston Manor, Bedfordview, Benoni Northerns, Colin Mann, Dunvegan, Tigers, Highveld, Summerfields and Tom Newby.

Tyreece Kruger from Summerfields won an award for two stumpings and a run-out in the same game.

Bradley Thomas, from Benoni Northerns, received an award for the catch of the day.

Calvin Eva, from Arbor Primary, was awarded the best run-out of the day. The team of the day, based on team spirit, sportsmanship and camaraderie, went to the Tigers.

“The boys had a lot of fun and a many of them have showed their talent. The weather has been on our side, so the event has been successful,” said Mr White added.
