Road surface nightmare

Motorists have reported that the section which was re-tarred is so uneven and bumpy it makes travelling from Van Riebeeck Avenue to Seventeenth Avenue an unpleasant trip.

There are concerns that a poorly rehabilitated Second Street will cause damage to cars.

Last year council gave the go ahead for line installations along Second Street.

For months the three lane road was cut down to two lanes and when the work was eventually completed, the newly surfaced section of Second Street was virtually impossible to drive on.

Motorists have reported that the section which was re-tarred is so uneven and bumpy it makes travelling from Van Riebeeck Avenue to Seventeenth Avenue an unpleasant trip.

Many motorists choose to rather drive in the middle lane of the road and at the last second, change lanes in order to turn into Seventeenth Avenue.

The poorly rehabilitated section of road has also raised concerns over the impact it has on motor vehicles.

Last week the NEWS questioned council over whether the rehabilitation of the road was inspected after completion and whether the job was found to be satisfactory.

The NEWS sent an enquiry to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) on February 18 for comment by February 21.

At the time of going to print, no comment was received.
