
The Jeppe SAPS arrested several people in separate incidents for the possession of unlicensed firearms and knives recently.
Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, the Jeppe SAPS communications officer, said police officers stopped and searched a man at the corner of Albert and Phillip streets in City and Suburban on February 2. He was arrested after being found in possession of a knife.
On February 15, police officers saw two men having an argument at the corner of Albert and End streets, also in City and Suburban. They stopped and searched the men and found a knife. The man in possession of the knife was arrested.
The following day another man was arrested in Benrose for the possession of an unlicenced firearm.
“The police officers were at the corner of Main Reef and New Goch roads when they saw three men. They stopped and searched them. One of the men threw something in the bush. The police officers checked what it was and discovered it was a pistol. The man was arrested,” said W/O Munyai.
On February 17, police officers received information about two men, one in possession of a firearm, in Troyeville.
“They proceeded to the address that was provided and found two men fitting the description given. The men were searched and one of them was found in possession of a firearm,” said W/O Munyai.
The man could not produce a license for the firearm, so he was arrested and charged.
