Suspect wanted for common robbery

The Cleveland SAPS pleads with the public not to accept lifts from strangers.

Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said detectives are currently searching for a man in connection with a robbery that took place on April 13.

A woman who was on her way to work was approached by an unknown man driving a VW golf at 4.50am. He offered her a lift to work.

“The woman agreed and they drove towards Johannesburg. The driver changed direction and went towards Bezuidenhout Park. When the woman asked where they were going the man said he wants to ‘end her life’. The woman jumped out of the moving vehicle and ran away,” said Const Mashakane.

The man chased after her but he could not find her. “The woman left her handbag containing bank cards and her identity document behind. She also sustained some injuries,” said Const Mashakane.

Anyone with information on the suspect can contact Warrant Officer Roy Shipalana on 011 677-5763.
