Alicia a step ahead of the rest
Alicia Walters took overall first place in the SA U/16 Championship, as well as first fling, first swords, first Shean Trews and first Reel.
Merryl Hofmeyr’s students from the Shaw-Butler Dancing Studio, in Edenvale, excelled at the recent South African Championships for Highland dancing.
The local dancers who competed all received medals and placings in their respective age groups and gradings.
Alicia Walters took overall first place in the SA U/16 Championship, as well as first fling, first swords, first Shean Trews and first Reel.
Shannon O’Connor took overall first place in the intermediate section; Nicola Moore was overall first in the premier 16 to 19 years section and Megan McRobert was first overall in the premier 20 year and older section.
Shonagh Aylward took three third places and one fifth place in the premier 16 to 19 year section.
Megan Moore was third in the SA U/16 to 18 year championship and Sharon Enell took a second place and two fifth places in the premier 16 to 19 year section.
Leonie Thompson took fourth Fling, fourth swords, fourth Shean Trews, fourth Reel and fourth overall in the SA Adult Championship.
Sarah McAlpine was sixth Fling and sixth Shean Trews in the SA Adult Championships.
Sarah McMenamin took two sixth places in the novice section; Kayleigh Wright took two first places, one second place, one sixth place and was runner-up in the beginners section; Hannah Higgins took one second place, one third place and one sixth place in the beginners section. Abigail McNamara took one third place and one fourth place in the beginners section.
