Edenvale CPF has big plans for 2015

The ECPF will also continue its zero tolerance approach to drugs in the community.

For 2015, the Edenvale Community Police Forum (ECPF) will focus much of its efforts on engaging the community.

“2014 was not an easy year. Some community members felt neglected and ignored by Edenvale law enforcers,” said the chairperson for the ECPF, Mrs Linda McKenzie.

“For 2015, we as the Edenvale CPF would like to encourage the community to stand together with us to fight against the bad elements we will be facing,” she said.

The ECPF will also continue its zero tolerance approach to drugs in the community.

“We have and will continue to support the Edenvale SAPS in operations which aim to rid Edenvale of drugs,” said Mrs McKenzie.

She added that members of the community should continue to be proactive in reporting drug dealers and suspicious activity.

Over 2014, a number of the arrests made by the Edenvale SAPS, as well as members of various units from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), were the result of tip-off’s received from the community.

“Edenvale is our town and we must take action against the criminals,” said Mrs McKenzie.

She added that the ECPF plans to work with the SAPS and EMPD to stamp out corruption and intimidation reported by residents and motorists.

“We will be creating a sub-committee to deal with all complaints regarding corruption and intimidation in the area. We appeal strongly to the community to come forward to report and open cases so that we rid Edenvale of bad elements,” said Mrs McKenzie.

She added that the ECPF planned to use all avenues of communication, including Facebook and Twitter, to stay in contact with the community.

“We also want to encourage the community to be more involved in the activities of the ECPF and to work with us to strengthen the working relationship with SAPS, EMPD and the security companies,” said Mrs McKenzie.

She also said that the ECPF will engage in active marketing campaigns to make residents aware of the role the organisation plays in the community.

“We will again focus on our Know your Neighbour campaign. Unless you know who lives around you, what vehicles they are driving, you will not be able to identify if a crime is taking place,” she said.

The ECPF will also aim to create awareness among the business community of Edenvale in the hope to raise awareness of crimes which affect them directly.

“We have for a few years already run the senior citizen adoption campaign and this year we will again make this a priority,” said Mrs McKenzie.

Through the project, residents can adopt a senior citizen in their street to create a support system for the senior citizen in case of an emergency.
