The driver of a Mercedes Benz, travelling at 216 kilometres an hour along the R24 between the Edenvale and Barbara road off ramps, was arrested on Sunday, March 1.
The driver was among seven people arrested as part of a speed law enforcement operation by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).
The driver of the Mercedes Benz told officers he was late for a flight.
The other six drivers who were arrested, were clocked at speeds of between 161 kilometres an hour and 186 kilometres an hour.
All the arrested drivers were charged with reckless and negligent driving at the Edenvale Police Station and later released after posting bail of R1 500 each.
They are expected to appear in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court soon.
