Tour highlights Rand Aid’s size

Rand Aid manages four retirement villages, two frail care centres, a treatment centre for people with substance abuse problems and a home for the deaf.

On August 28, Jurgens Bekker staff members and members of the Sandringham Police Station gathered at Rand Aid’s head office for a talk by Rand Aid CEO, Mr Rae Brown.

The Rand Aid Association is one of the Bedfordview-based Jurgens Bekker Attorneys’ major clients.

A tour of the retirement villages, care centres and treatment centre was organised to illustrate to staff members from the firm just how large the organisation is.

Founded in 1903, Rand Aid manages four retirement villages, two frail care centres, a treatment centre for people with substance abuse problems and a home for the deaf.

It also undertakes the administration of the Joseph Gerard Foundation in Alexandra.

Apart from its upmarket retirement accommodation at Inyoni Creek, Thornhill Manor and Elphin Lodge, Rand Aid has a strong welfare focus and provides subsidised accommodation, care or treatment to over 500 people on a daily basis at its Thembalami Care Centre, Tarentaal Village and Wedge Gardens Treatment Centre.

Support services include Cookchill, the catering arm that prepares 35 500 meals a month, the stores, central workshops and the central laundry that handles around three tons of laundry a month. The association’s grounds of 69 hectares include three dams and there is a staff complement of around 450 people. 60 of those employees are security personnel.
