Do not fall victim to “Stolen car scam”

"This is a scam. Don't pay any money over."

Captain Jean Olckers, the spokesperson of the Edenvale SAPS, has urged residents to be aware of a scam doing the rounds in the Edenvale area.

He said the scam targets people whose vehicles have been stolen.

Capt Olckers said complainants who have had their cars stolen receive a call from a person alleging to be a police officer from the Edenvale SAPS.

“The ‘officer’ tells the complainant their car has been recovered and that the ‘officer’ needs money to release the vehicle,” said Capt Olckers.

Capt Olckers said the officer continues to tell the complainant that if no money is paid the car will be towed away and stripped for spare parts.

“This is a scam. Don’t pay any money over,” said Capt Olckers.

Capt Olckers urged community memmbers who recieve a call like this to open a case at the Edenvale SAPS as soon as possible.

“We take this matter seriously and an investigation is underway,” said Capt Olckers.
