Councillor Da Rocha jailed for a good cause

KENSINGTON – Councillor Da Rocha is asking for residents help to bail him out for a good cause.

Ward 66 councillor, Carlos da Rocha will be ‘imprisoned’ for a good cause, at a mobile jail at Park Meadows Shopping Centre on 14 November, in aid of raising funds for the Cansa Keurboom Care Home.

Da Rocha’s ‘bail’ has already been set at R5 000 or three years behind bars, if the full amount is not collected. He will be jailed along with other ‘inmates’ who are also supporting the worthy cause. “I’m excited about bail and jail!,” said Da Rocha.

“I took part last year and we raised money for a good cause, so, when I was asked again this year, I was more than happy to oblige. As a councillor, you serve your community and part of serving includes taking part in charities such as this. Keurboom is doing wonderful work and if the money I raise ‘in jail’ makes a difference, I’ll be happy.”

He said he would appreciate every bit of help he can get from the community, in order to make his bail. “I plead with my residents to come and bail me out; I need your pledges, so please start offering any amount, which will be highly appreciated.”

To contribute towards Da Rocha’s bail, deposit directly into Cansa’s bank account: Absa branch code, 334334; account number, 405 864 3337. Da Rocha will need to provide the necessary evidence of bail money and asks contributors to ensure they provide bank deposit slips or some form of proof of payment. Strict conditions will be applied and Da Rocha will not be released from ‘prison’ unless the full amount is collected.
