Yeoville police educate youngsters on Youth Day

JOBURG – Residents, police and youngsters held a successful Youth Day event.

 

Yeoville crime prevention desk hosted a Youth Day event with local schools at the Yeoville Recreation Centre recently, which was well attended by youngsters, police officials and residents.

The aim of the event was to educate youngsters about social illnesses and the consequences of youth engaging in alcohol abuse, substance abuse, bullying, crime and child abuse. Six schools participated in the event. The schools performed drama on stage during the day with different themes of issues that face the youth:

  • Shaik Anti Diop Primary School performed drama with the theme of discrimination
  • Evelyn School performed a drama on life after matric
  • Bellevue High School performed a drama on substance abuse and gender-based violence
  • Yeoville Boys performed drama on underage alcohol consumption
  • Yeoville Community Primary School performed drama on child abuse and Africa International presented drama on bullying and vandalism.

Youngsters entertained residents during the middle of the dramas. “Yeoville police are proud to have been educated by the learners on some of the aspects that affect learners at schools and their homes,” said spokesperson for the station, Captain Sifiso Mabizela.

Mabizela said the station would like to see more community driven initiatives as it helps to keep children safe.
