"It is always best to know one's status.”

Yeoville SAPS communications, Johannesburg SAPS East Cluster social crime prevention and youth crime prevention desk members held an HIV/Aids awareness campaign at Yeoville on December 1.

The purpose of the event was to educate the community about HIV/Aids.

Yeoville SAPS spokesperson Capt Sifiso Mabizela urged people to take responsibility and be tested, treated and to remain on treatment.

“We encouraged those who are living with the disease to do regular check-ups. We educated the youngsters to abstain,” he said.

Mabizela told residents that treatments are available at the nearest clinics.

“It is always best to know one’s status,” he said.

Residents were given pamphlets containing information about HIV/Aids.

“We also handed out condoms to residents to protect themselves,” said Mabizela.
