With the hopes of obtaining information about his son’s disappearance, concerned father Tony Cowie has appealed to community members for their assistance.
Darren Cowie, an Isandovale resident, was last seen on April 5.
Tony said his son left home to go to the Bedfordview Virgin Active at about 10.30am almost three weeks ago. The father appealed to Edenvale, Bedfordview, Johannesburg and communities further afield to contact him if they have information on his son’s whereabouts.
When Darren left home he left his phone behind.
Darren was last seen at the gym. He was wearing an olive-green jacket, grey tracksuit pants, a T-shirt and red shoes.
He was driving a red Ford Fiesta, registration number DP 01 CD GP.
When he disappeared, Darren had dark curly hair and a big bushy beard.
“Darren is a good guy. We just want to know that he is safe,” said Tony.
Since Darren disappeared, Tony has been called numerous times by community members who claimed to have seen his son.
“Unfortunately, the leads were dead ends, but we have not given up hope.”
“We find it strange that Darren just disappeared off the face off the earth.”
Since his son disappeared, Tony sought help from the SAPS, security companies, the Edenvale Community Police Forum and a private investigator.
“Darren never had much of a social life. He was very work driven,” said Tony.
Tony described Darren as a very intelligent and withdrawn young man.
Darren, who has bipolar disorder, has a BCom Honours degree in engineering and has had his thesis published in a magazine.
Tony explained that Darren was always a good child who never got involved with the wrong crowd. He was also part of the Eastleigh Sea Scouts.
“Before he disappeared, Darren alienated himself from a lot of his friends. He started keeping to himself more and more,” said Tony.
“We tried to get him help for his diagnosis but he said he was fine.”
Tony hopes Darren’s sudden disappearance is a result of him seeking help for his diagnosis.
“The whole experience is quite an ordeal,” said the concerned father.
Contact Tony on 072 598 9601 to report information on Darren’s whereabouts.
“Anyone can call me at any time of the day or night if they have information about Darren.”
Tony thanked community members for all of the assistance and advice they have offered him so far.
