The process of repairing Edenvale’s Community Centre is underway and improvements to the centre can already be seen.
The repair work comes after concerns were raised by the Edenvale Senior Citizen Association (ESCA) in the November 21 edition of the NEWS.
Concerns raised by ESCA members included a collapsed manhole in the parking lot, overgrown gardens, hip-high weeds in the courtyard and deteriorating electrical infrastructure.
City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe said the municipality is in the process of appointing service providers to resolve the maintenance issues.

“The city has many competing maintenance issues that are attended to with limited resources,” said Gadebe.
“Sometimes it takes time for maintenance issues to be addressed.”
He said the manhole collapsed when a heavy truck entered the parking lot and drove over it.
“Quotations have been obtained to start the repair process,” said Gadebe.
In addition to repairing the manhole, the electrical infrastructure will also be upgraded.
Gadebe said the upgrades will form part of a maintenance project scheduled for the 2019/20 financial year.
To ensure the community centre remains in good condition, the city has conducted a condition assessment of the centre.
“Quotations, bills and a work package are being prepared by a team of professionals to quantify the amount of work needed to be done,” said Gadebe.
Projects outlined in the package will start in the next financial year which starts in July 2019.
