Capt Johan Jordaan, spokesperson for the Cleveland SAPS, said there are a lot that needs to be improved in 2020.
He said that 2019 was a tough year for the station.
Despite the hardships faced by the station, Jordaan said five new constables were welcomed to the Cleveland Police Station.
“Last year was one of the toughest years and yet, a good one too. We as SAPS here in Cleveland did our best to decrease crime in the area. So many arrests were made and we are trying to bring justice as best we can,” he said.
Jordaan explained that plans for 2020 included building towards reaching set-out goals for the station.
“It is difficult to plan for this year. I do not want to speak about something that will be in vain. I am hoping to decrease our crime stats.
“I don’t want to make promises that I might not be able to keep, but we promise to try our level best to keep criminals where they belong.”
He said he is hoping to introduce more campaigns of awareness against women and children abuse.
“That is one of the aims and focus points that I think the SAPS must put more work towards. Women and children of this country deserve better and taking care of them is one of our priorities. Developing these campaigns will bring justice to many communities. We must embrace and take care of our community members,” he said.
Jordaan added that, above all, fighting crime in the community is one of the highest priorities.
