Distress and understanding from Ward 19

“There are however many who also agree it was the right thing to do,”

Since the national lockdown was implemented, the number of community members on the roads of Ward 19 has diminished significantly.

Ward 19 Clr Bill Rundle said food stores and doctors rooms remain busy but overall the town is quiet.

Rundle highlighted that residents are obeying the lockdown and are behaving responsibly.

From interaction he’s had with community members, Rundle said many were anxious and distressed by the announcement of the lockdown extension.

“There are many who also agree it was the right thing to do,” said Rundle.

“There are big companies who are suffering huge financial losses. Importers are in dire straits. Small street vendors are operating but the clients have dwindled.”

Rundle explained that he recently encountered black-uniformed officers conducting Covid-19 regulation controls on Linksfield Road.

Not recognising the uniform, Rundle learned it was officers from the National Traffic Department specifically deployed for the pandemic.

Rundle said he and fellow Clr Heather Hart teamed up with several organisations to collect food for the needy in Edenvale.
