Collect your unapproved building plans

Owners who submitted building plans that were then not approved between 2014 and 2019, should collect the building plans by the end of May.

The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) calls on homeowners who submitted their building plans between 2014 and 2019 to collect them. According to metro’s acting spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, these plans were submitted and not approved and the owners did not follow up to check if there were corrections to be made.

These building plans have been kept in the City Planning offices for years without any follow-up from the owners.

“According to the law, if the property owner wants to build or extend a house, they must appoint an architect or a drafter to design a proposed building plan. “This plan is submitted to the city’s planning department for approval,” explained Dlamini. “In some instances, the owner is advised to make some alterations to the plan before it is approved. Building without following the approved building plan may lead to the concerned structure or building being demolished at the cost of the owner.”

Owners who submitted building plans that were then not approved between 2014 and 2019 should collect the building plans by the end of May.

“Residents are urged to contact their nearest customer care centre (CCC) to follow up on their submitted building plans. They can also contact their regional managers at their nearest CCC,” added Dlamini.
