Following further investigation, police believe that at least four male suspects were involved in the crime.
A case of murder is under investigation following the fatal shooting which recently occurred in Dunvegan.
According to Ekurhuleni District police spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the shooting, which occurred on Dunvegan Avenue, just outside of the road enclosure, on the afternoon of June 10, at approximately 14:30, claimed the life of 58-year-old Meadowdale resident Chantel Smith.

The incident saw stakeholders from across the area mobilise, as SAPS, private security, emergency services, and the Edenvale CPF descended on the scene.
Sekgobela said it is believed that the shooting was the result of a failed hijacking.

“When they [law enforcement] arrived at the scene, they were directed to the body of a 58-year-old woman lying on the ground in the parking lot in front of a business along the avenue.”

Sekgobela said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was going to a nearby pharmacy when she was approached by two suspects.

“One suspect was armed with a firearm, and the suspects tried to pull the deceased and put her into their vehicle.
“The deceased resisted, which is when she was shot in the head by one of the suspects,” said Sekgobela.
She said paramedics were summoned to the scene, and the victim was certified deceased.
