EMPD officers arrest intoxicated driver in Bedfordview

A 54-year-old male is set to appear before the Magistrate’s Court for driving under the influence of alcohol after being arrested and detained at the Bedfordview Police Station.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Germiston North Precinct officers arrested a 54-year-old male for driving under the influence of alcohol in the Bedfordview area.

While patrolling on Barbara Road on June 17, officers stopped a suspicious white VW Polo sedan for inspection.

During their interaction with the driver, officers developed a reasonable suspicion that he was under the influence of alcohol.

A breathalyser test was administered and the driver’s reading measured 0, 57 mg/l, exceeding the prescribed legal limit.

He was subsequently escorted to the nearest medical facility, where blood samples were taken for further analysis.

The motorist was immediately placed under arrest and detained at the Bedfordview Police Station.

He is expected to appear before the magistrate’s court soon to face charges relating to driving under the influence of alcohol.
