Local golfer swings for victory at tournament
“I played smart, but aggressively and had a hot putter, everything was solid,”

Cassandra Alexander cleaned up at Modderfontein Golf Course when she walked away as the champion at the Absa Ladies Invitational.
The tournament was played at Serengeti Estates between April 4 and 6.
Alexander, a member of Modderfontein-based Balderstone Sports Institute, finished the tournament on 12-under-par overall and walked away R1.2m.

On the final day, April 6, Alexander started the day tied for first with fellow South African Kiera Floyd.
Alexander went out in 34 before a brilliant back nine saw her collect an eagle and two birdies. Floyd on the other hand struggled to a 77 and finished 11 strokes behind.
Alexander’s closest challenger was Spaniard Harang Lee, who shot a 66 finishing on eight-under-par.
“It was very close to flawless golf. I played unbelievably well and I am really happy,” Alexander said after her fifth Sunshine Ladies Tour title.
“I had one or two drops early on which was maybe a bit of nerves, but I must have had 10 15-foot putts and I just couldn’t miss the first few. So I just tried to give myself birdie opportunities and I managed to sink a few more.

“I played smart, but aggressively and had a hot putter, everything was solid,” said Alexander.
Following her success at Modderfontein, Alexander went on to defend her Jabra Ladies Classic title at Glendower Golf Course.
The title was claimed at the Edenvale course by Cara Gorlei as her first professional win.
Alexander is looking forward to several consecutive weeks of golf on the European Tour as well as two co-sanctioned events in South Africa.
