Edenvale Hospice Care Centre gets new beds

When the new beds arrived everyone at the care centre was in high spirits.

Edenvale Hospice Care Centre was a hive of excitement and activity when it received eight new hospital beds.
The new beds replace eight of the 13 beds in the ward.

They were donated by Netcare.

The care centre received the new beds on February 18 after local doctors, Dr Pierre and Dr Anne Marais, initiated the process.

Ronnette Bellamy from the offices of Dr Pierre and Dr Anne Marais said that in December Anne asked her to determine if any organisation would be willing to donate hospital beds to replace those at the care centre and to help improve the facility.

Ronnette said after sending a letter to the Netcare Group, her request was circulated.

On February 14, Ronnette received confirmation that Netcare Pretoria East Hospital could donate eight beds to the care centre.

“When I heard the confirmation I was so happy,” said Ronnette.

Ensuring a swift delivery, manager of the care centre Marlene Hooper requested assistance, with the delivery of the beds from the community.

Marlene said soon after putting her request out local home removal company Pineapple Xpress stepped up and offered to collect and deliver the new hospital beds.

“The team from Pineapple Xpress were fantastic, they drove to Pretoria and delivered the beds to us free of charge, their service was wonderful,” said Marlene.

She said when the new beds arrived everyone at the care centre was in high spirits.

“There was so much excitement and comradery. Everyone was working together to get the new beds in place.”

Marlene said the beds which were replaced were outdated and had been at the care centre since it opened its doors in 2002.

She said some of the beds had been repaired over the years to ensure their operation.

Besides bringing joy and elevating the morale of staff and patients at the care centre Marlene said the new beds will improve the look of the facility.
