Edenvale tribute honours Ashley Brokensha and raises R64 000 for hospice

Community members and musicians gathered at Edenvale Bowling Club to celebrate the late Ballyhoo member’s life, raising funds for Edenvale Care Centre Hospice.

Community members, musicians, and friends recently came together to celebrate the life of the late Ashley Brokensha, a former musician.

The tribute event for the former Ballyhoo member was held at Edenvale Bowling Club on February 24.

Edenvale Care Centre Hospice’s administrator, Ronel Barnard, said Ashley had recently visited the care centre; however, he passed away several weeks ago.

Ronel said the event not only paid tribute to Ashley but also raised funds for the care centre.
In total, R64 331 was raised.

She explained that after Ashley had died, she and musician Gavin Langeveldt began discussing hosting a tribute event.

“Gavin knew Ashley very well, and we spoke about hosting an event, so we got Just Just Blom Events involved and decided to host it at the Edenvale Bowling Club,” said Ronel.

She said the event went extremely well and had a great atmosphere.

From an initial three artists, the event ended up hosting eight performers.

“All the musicians wanted to give back,” said Ronel.

She added that the community was just as amazing and supportive.

“The community was so passionate. Edenvale really is amazing. They really get stuck in for a good cause.”
