Bedfordview musician revives Oceans of Angels with live comeback show

"I'm excited to be back on stage again. It's going to be great to play with the band."

Local band Oceans of Angels is set to take to the stage after taking a one and a half year hiatus.

The band is set to get fans on their feet and moving once again with a mix of old and new music when they perform at the Troyeville Hotel at the end of the month.

Speaking to Bedfordview resident and band founder Sheldon Horvatic, he said that he is looking forward to getting back on stage and performing.

The band was founded in 2022 as a musical project after the successful release of Shattered Soldier.

“A lot has been happening lately, but the band has been keen to play.

“Event organiser Kerry Anne Allerston recently asked me if we would like to perform at the show. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to get back on stage,” said Sheldon.

“I’m excited to be back on stage again. It’s going to be great to play with the band.”

Sheldon said the event is set to be a fun-filled, relaxed afternoon and is family-friendly.
While on hiatus, Sheldon said he has been writing a lot of music.

He said the number of songs he has written is enough to create two or three albums; however, he is uncertain if he will release them all.

According to Sheldon, the music he has been writing is deep, soulful, and emotional, which will connect with fans and listeners.

“The new music that I have been writing will connect with people who are in touch with their emotions.”

He explained that over the years, he has found that expressing himself through his music helps him share his emotions and connect with his audience and fans.

Besides writing music during his hiatus, Sheldon shared with fans that he has also lived abroad and has been teaching himself to play the piano.

Although the new songs stick true to Oceans of Angels, Sheldon said fans might find it slightly different.
“I don’t necessarily focus on the sound, I just focus on what comes out and what I am creating in the moment.

“I would say my music has definitely matured as I have gotten older and grown, but it is still emotionally based. I will only know the final results once it’s been mixed and mastered.”

Looking to the future, Sheldon says he still needs his songs mixed and mastered before he can release them.

He said he hopes to release a full album in the coming months.

Oceans of Angels will perform at The Hangout at Troyeville on May 31.

Doors will open at 12:30.
