From the Editor’s Pen – we stepped up to the plate
Communities come together in a time of crisis

Edenvale and Bedfordview communities remind me of my family. Sometimes we fight, debate, disagree – but boy oh boy, when one is in trouble, we step up to the plate.
No price too high to save a life
The response to their fellow residents in need following the devastating November 9 floods, has been overwhelming and a privilege to witness.
The morning after the floods, businesses and residents were out and about, helping each other with clean-up operations in affected areas, especially Eastleigh.
Restoring Edenvale after floods
The weekend resulted in spontaneous clean-up activities of public parks and spaces, with residents going out in large numbers to clear the affected areas of debris, restoring both towns following the storm.
Not only did we help out with clean-up operations, but collections were done for those who lost everything in the floods. The NEWS was inundated with inquiries as to where goods can be dropped off.
The community went further and added their support and help to Michael Bowen and his family after their beloved dog, Toboe, was washed away in the floods.
The family’s pleas for help in finding their pet was widely shared with online communities and it still continued at the time of this writing.
What affected me most was your words of condolences, advice and support to those who lost loved ones in the floods and those affected by the floods.
Edenvale and Bedfordview communities showed that they come together in a time of crisis – like a family.
