Edenvale boxers shine at Mzansi Magic Box and Dine event

Hosted at Emperors Palace centre court Edenvale’s fighters Ricardo Malajika, Roarke Knapp and Tyla Promnick stepped into the ring on August 9.

It was an evening of victories for Edenvale’s boxers when they took to the ring during the Mzansi Magic Box and Dine.

Hosted at Emperors Palace’s centre court, Edenvale’s fighters Ricardo Malajika, Roarke Knapp, and Tyla Promnick stepped into the ring on August 9.

IBO World Junior Bantamweight champion Malajika again brought the magic when he successfully defended his title against Jayson Mama of the Philippines in the headline bout.

The ‘Magic Man’ was in devastating form, sending the Filipino to the deck numerous times during the fight before knocking him out in the fifth round.

While Malajika was expected to be tested by Mama, who had won 20 of his 23 fights going into the contest, the local double IBO champion looked in complete control from the start.

This was Malajika’s fifth successful defence and saw him move to the number two spot in this division in the Boxrec rankings.

After suffering an eighth-round knockout loss against Bakary Samake in France in April, Edenvale’s Knapp was back to winning ways when he faced Juan Rick Carcedo of the Philippines.

Knapp came out in this International Super Welterweight contest like a man with a point to prove, and prove it he did when he knocked out Carcedo in the third round.

Fellow fighter Tyla Promnick continued her reign as the queen of the ring at Emperors Palace when she beat Noxolo Magagula of the Western Cape.

Promnick won the four-round strawweight undercard bout with a split decision.

Promnick, who trains under Alan Toweel, won her three previous fights at the Palace of Dreams by TKO and now continues with a record of 4-0.
