Rugby festival brings communities together

St Benedict’s Preparatory School has, since 2010, provided the opportunity to underprivileged rugby players from local communities to participate, and compete in, its rugby festival, allowing the boys exposure to top local traditional and visiting schools from other provinces.

The eighth annual U/13 Rugby Festival was held at St Benedict’s College from February 27 to March 1.

The festival is the largest junior school rugby tournament in the province.

The key focus of the event is to support transformation in rugby and develop the skills of previously disadvantaged children.

The St Benedict’s Preparatory School U/13 Rugby Festival has also over the past few years established a strong rugby reputation and offered endless opportunities to the Golden Lions Rugby Union, Golden Lions Primary Schools Referee Association, Schools, boys and spectators.

This year three development teams participated in the festival.

Two of the teams were selected by the Golden Lions and the third team was St Benedict’s-supported Orchards Primary School.

St Benedict’s Prep, together with the help from sponsors, provided full match kit, transport, team photographs, coaching clinics facilitated by the Golden Lions players, daily meals and player’s packs to all players of the three developments teams during the festival.

The Golden Lions have committed to supporting and endorsing the festival.
